T-minus 8 days.
I can't believe that after one train, one bus, 3 airplane flights, and one car later that I'll officially be in Takaungu, Kenya where I will be interning at the East African Center (or the EAC, as I'll be referring to it in all future posts) for the Summer. This international internship is focused on Public Health initiatives implemented by the EAC and is sustained by locals in Takaungu. I will be facilitating in an array of activities including working at their local clinic, partaking in community health outreach programs, helping the EAC apply for a grant, corresponding with donors, and leading health info sessions on topics such as women's health, HIV/AIDS, and general hygiene.
Now, I'm gonna go ahead and admit that I am NOT a blogger and I have failed miserably at every single blog that I have ever started prior to an international experience. I will try my hardest to post every now and then, but this time I'll actually have an excuse for my lack in correspondence: the area that I will be interning has very limited internet access with the nearest internet cafe being 90 minutes away from my community. So, please forgive me.
In true Noelle fashion, I started packing for this adventure last month...and I have packed and repacked my bag about 2948297 times! Haha! I'm excited to dust off my Kipling book bag for this excursion. Don't you think that the bright blue strap and HUGE 'N' luggage tag will ensure that my bag remains in my possession?
